Uncovering culturally responsive teaching to biology problem solving through cultural literacy, environmental literacy, and students' social attitudes
Keywords:

A culturally responsive teaching approach is an important strategy for fostering meaningful learning by integrating learning materials with cultural contexts to improve concept understanding, social skills and awareness of environmental issues. This study aims to explain the effect of culturally responsive teaching on students' biology problem solving, mediated by cultural literacy, environmental literacy and social attitudes. This study used a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional survey design and structural equation modeling, implemented using Smart Partial Least Squares 3.3.2. The research subjects were 302 students from the biology education and biology study programs at 16 universities in the Sulawesi region, Indonesia. The data collection instrument was a closed-ended Likert-scale questionnaire that had undergone expert validation. The results of the analysis indicated that culturally responsive teaching had a significant effect in increasing cultural literacy, environmental literacy and social attitudes, all of which had a positive impacted biology problem solving.
